Hansel "Richard" Mitchem

Mr. Hansel “Richard” Mitchem a resident of DeFuniak Springs, Florida passed away Tuesday, November 20, 2019.  Richard was employed for twenty-seven years with Fleming Foods in Geneva, Alabama.  Following the closure of Fleming Foods, he began working with the City of DeFuniak and retired after fifteen years of service.  He was a faithful member of Solid Rock Community Church and a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters; four brothers; and one son, Richard Wayne Mitchem.

Richard is survived by his wife of 47 years Brenda Mitchem; daughter, Tabitha Gail Richards and husband Stephen; two sons, Michael Mitchem and wife Laura and Joseph Mitchem and wife Omega; sixteen grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 25, 2019 beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the Solid Rock Community Church, 26 Joe Anderson Road, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32433 with Pastor Larry Murphy officiating.  A time of visitation will begin at 1:00.  Those asked to serve as pallbearers: Michael and Joseph Mitchem, Travis Richards, Gordon O' Brien, Darrell Miller, and David Murphy. Committal services will follow at Magnolia Cemetery.
