Gordon Meinscher Obituary

Gordon Meinscher, age 74, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2018 in Crestview, FL. Gordon was born on November 9, 1943 to Oswald A. Meinscher and Zelda M. Edmonston Meinscher in Beaumont, TX and was raised in Austin, TX.

Gordon is survived by his daughters, Colleen Meinscher, of Hendersonville, NC and Melanie Price (Travis Price), of Fletcher, NC. He has one grandson, Ryley Best (son of Colleen). He is also survived by his sister, Glenda Chapman, of Joelton, TN and his brother, Paul Meinscher, of New Braunfels, TX. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Charles “Chuck” Meinscher, of San Antonio, TX.

Gordon served in the U.S. Navy as an Aviation Mechanic, then went on to graduate from University of West Florida with a degree in Business. After traveling extensively for work, he settled in Pensacola, FL in 1976 and started Sunshine Kawasaki with friend and business partner, Skip Hartford. He later expanded his business to include Honda/Kawasaki of Milton and Bay Insurance in Milton, FL, where he worked until retiring.

He married Martha Meinscher in 1963 and the couple had two daughters together. In addition to being a loving father, Gordon was a kind and gregarious man who went out of his way to help others whenever he could. He had an adventurous spirit and enjoyed racing and riding motorcycles, sailing, and traveling.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Carrington Manor in Crestview as well as VITAS Hospice of Niceville for taking such excellent care of him during his final years. He will be interred at Barrancas National Cemetery, Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Florida in a private ceremony. The family suggests contributions in his memory be made to the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund at curealz.org.
