In 2016, after a 40-year career in finance, he retired to Florida to play golf and pursue his passion in woodworking.  Garry’s favorite pastime included excursions to get donuts and “boat-watching” with his canine companion, Ella.  Rotary International played a pivotal role in Garry’s life where he served as President of Rotary Club of Central Johnston County.  Centenary United Methodist Church in Smithfield was his home church and he was active in the Boy Scouts of America with his two sons—Kyle and Alex.

Garry is survived by his wife, Pamela of Shalimar; his daughters, Meghan Baine and husband Glenn of Shalimar and Katherine Stollery and husband Mark of Greensboro, NC; sons, Kyle Gavitt and wife Jordan of Thomasville, NC and Alex Gavitt of Shalimar. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Brenden and Jaydin Baine of Shalimar; Violet Stollery of Greensboro, NC; William, Benjamin, and Jackson Gavitt of Thomasville, NC.  Garry is also survived by his sister, Milinda Schwab and husband Gerald of San Antonio, TX.  He was preceded in death by his father Charles “Tubby” Gavitt and mother Mildred Gavitt.

There will be a private gathering of family followed by a memorial service in North Carolina at a future date.  Garry will be interred at Beal Memorial Cemetery in Fort Walton Beach, FL.
