Fred Leon Curry, 83, of Fort Walton Beach, Florida passed away peacefully in his home in the presence of his family on Saturday October 26, 2019. He was born on May 10, 1936 to Mary and Arthur Curry in Key West, FL.
Fred enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1956. He served in the Marines for 11 years and then in the United States Air Force for 10 years. He completed several tours overseas in the Vietnam War as a mechanic on the Huey helicopter and then transitioned to a maintenance instructor. He was instrumental in developing the Sikorsky H-53 helicopter program at Eglin Air Force Base. He then spent 20 years working for the United States Postal Service. He married Kathy on August 30, 1997 and they spent 22 wonderful years together. He was a devoted husband, father, and granddad.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy Curry; his children, Kimberly Nowling, John Koelbel, David Koelbel, Kathryn Burns and her husband, Edward Burns, and Elizabeth Chesser and her husband, James Chesser; grandchildren, Adeline Burns, Beckett Burns, Benjamin Burns and Avery Drayton. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 33 years, Kathleen Curry; and his beloved cat, Max.
A memorial mass will be held at St Mary Catholic Church on Wednesday October 30, 2019 at 2 pm. A tribute donation can be made in his memory to the Semper Fi Fund at www.semperfifund.org as he was always a Marine at heart.
