Franklin “Frank” Delano Dawson, age 72, of Defuniak Springs, Florida passed away Friday, July 26, 2019 at his residence. He was born August 10, 1946 in Red Bay, Florida, to Howard and Ella Hogans Dawson. Frank was employed with the Walton County School System until retirement.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Alfred Dawson; and three sisters, Bertha Carter, Pearline Gipson, and Louise Russ.
Frank is survived by one son, Howard Dawson; one daughter, Shameka Thomas; and three girls he raised and considered as daughters, Kathy Anderson, Lovie Anderson, and Bernadette Belizaire; goddaughter, Eushonda McCall; godson, Corey McCall; four grandchildren, Edward Pickford, Christian Goldson, Princess Peay, and Prince Forbes; one great-grandchild, Isiah Thomas; one brother, Fred Dawson; three sisters, Rosetta Young, Theakley (Joyce) Dawson, and Mary Eliza Dawson; two nephews, who were like brothers to Frank, Lesley McCaskill and Edward Clemmons; host of nieces and nephews; and special friends, Earl McCall, Hayward Clemmons, Donnie Andrews, and John Siples, Jr.
A time of visitation will be held Friday, August 2, 2019 in the chapel of Davis-Watkins Funeral Home, 1474 Highway 83 North, DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32433, from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 3, 2019 at Mt. Olive AME Church, 6280 Highway 81, Ponce de Leon, Florida 32455 beginning at 11:00 a.m. Committal services will follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery.
