Dorothy Jean Dixon Horton was born on April 9, 1954 in Crestview, FL. She was the proud daughter of the late Annie Mae Dixon Caldwell Stanley. She was the oldest of four children. She attended Carver Hill School, graduated in the class of 1971-1972 and had a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration Management from The University of West Florida.
On Thursday afternoon, October 31, 2019, she answered the Master’s call and ended a sweet, enduring and peaceful life to go to her heavenly home. She was 65 years of age at the time of death in her home in Fort Walton Beach, FL.
Dorothy was survived by her two daughters: Patrice Dixon of Crestview, Florida and Tomieka Davis (Tyrone Moss) of Horton, Alabama; three siblings, Glenn Peter (Clarette) Dixon of Topeka, Kansas, niece Tashra, David (Maria) Lorenzo Dixon of Madrid Spain, nieces Gabriela and Estrella ; Curtis Alan Caldwell of Houston Texas, her devoted friends and caretakers, Sarah Moody-Cox of Panama City Beach, Florida, and Bessie Clancy of Fort Walton Beach, Florida. She was also survived by her loyal cat, Raine.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her mother, Annie Mae Dixon Caldwell Stanley and her aunt, Rosie Lee Gilbert.
Dorothy was an active member of the NAACP (National Association for the Advanced Colored People). She was the chairperson of WIN (Women in the NAACP) and a member of the executive committee. Dorothy was active with the Martin Luther King Holiday celebration committee, she served as secretary, treasurer, and various roles within the NAACP.
Dorothy also enjoyed quilting, macramé, and photography.
