Bessie Mae Jones

Mrs. Bessie Mae Bryan Jones, age 103, of DeFuniak Springs, Florida passed away Wednesday morning, September 25, 2019.  She was born August 17, 1916 in north Walton County, Florida and lived in Illinois with her husband Lawson for 26 years before returning to Walton County in 1979. Then, they made their home in Freeport, Florida.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Lawson Jones; her parents, William George Bryan and Stella Virginia Bryan; five brothers, Andrew, Ernest, Theodore, Willie, Grady; and two sisters, Laura and Gladys.

She is survived by her two daughters, Virginia Moseley of DeFuniak Springs, Florida and Ronice Adams and husband, Earl of Freeport, Florida; 6 grandchildren, Larry Moseley, Gail Norman and husband Jerry, Gerry Griffith and husband Danny, Teresa Hulsey and husband Gary, David Adams and wife Gina, and Robert Adams and wife Tina; 20 great-grandchildren; 35 great-great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Bessie attended Heritage Church in Freeport, Florida. While her health permitted, she attended church faithfully and enjoyed her service to the church. Being very musically gifted, she enjoyed playing the piano and even singing solos at church. She loved God and was very devoted to living a Christian life.

Mrs. Jones loved her family and really loved having big family gatherings.  Also, she loved flowers, gardening, and feeding the birds. Helping others became second nature to her and she proved that many times over.

Those asked to serve as pallbearers: Johnny Moseley, Robert Bethea, Jeremy Heckinger, Robert Earl Adams, David Earl Adams, and Logan Adams.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday October 1, 2019 in the chapel of Davis-Watkins Funeral Home, 1474 Highway 83 North, DeFuniak Springs, FL 32433 beginning at 3:00 p.m. with Minister Joel Davis officiating.  A time of visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m.  Committal services will follow at the Cluster Springs Cemetery.
