Biography

Edith Winters Schobert was granted her angel wings on January 28, 2010, following a long and inspirational life here on Earth. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that Edith had touched in some small way throughout her memorable life.
She was born June 23, 1913, in Lincoln, Rhode Island to Curtis and Edith Winters. She graduated from Boston Children’s Hospital in 1934 with a degree in nursing. While working in Connecticut she met the love of her life, Ralph Schobert. Together they raised four children in Masonville, New York. Edith became a “Southern Lady” in 1980 when she and Ralph moved to Florida. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Crestview.
After 33 years in the field of nursing Edith decided she still needed to contribute to the field of medicine. She was a hospital volunteer and also made and then donated stuffed bears to the emergency room of Crestview Hospital for many years. Faithfully, each week, she would provide ten bears to the hospital. She was even recognized as an “Angel in our Midst”, an accomplishment she was very proud of.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph M. Schobert, her son Paul, her parents, sisters Priscilla, Eleanor and Jane and brothers, Edmond and Howard.
She is survived by her children Susan Mixon (Ray), Curtis Schobert (Joan), Nancy Entrup and fiancé Amos Bates, grandchildren Debra Haan, Scott Mixon, Anja Archer, Heather Dube and Daphne Schobert, Amber Wilson, Ian Wilson and seven beautiful great grandchildren.
It was the simple things around her in life that Edith never took for granted, commenting daily how fortunate and thankful she was. Above all, she was absolutely devoted to her family and friends. She was a woman of strong faith, believing in the power and strength of Jesus Christ's love and the beauty and peace that would await her after her passing.
The celebration of Edith’s life and memorial service will take place at 1:00, Saturday, February 6, 2010, at the First Presbyterian Church, Crestview, Florida with Pastor Mark Broadhead officiating.
In memory of Edith’s life flowers will be accepted or contributions may be made to Covenant Hospice of Crestview.
